Underneath the boring cornfields of Sandusky, Ohio where I grew up,  you could feel the  earthshaking rumbling  caused by our neighbors--NASA, testing rockets in the "shake, rattle and roll" tower. Between dreams of someday blasting into space on top of one of those incredibly powerful Titan 2 rockets, and the exhilaration of the G-forces in the front car of the nearby Blue Streak Roller Coaster at Cedar Point,  i knew I had to find some way to fuse those adrenaline generators into a job.

About the time I was blasting Van Halen and Aerosmith through homemade stereo speakers,  my Dad was moonlighting from his engineering gig at NASA in a band called "the Mach Fours". OK, the Beatle wig set was so not cool by ACDC standards, but I saw possibilities in that silver microphone.

After high school, I tried my voice out as a telephone operator but it wasn't enough connecting those farmer to farmer calls, so I jumped in my blue '69 Fastback Ford Mustang and blew that town for college.

4 years later ....I got my first radio job in Toledo. Columbus, Ohio , then Sacramento , Boston and at last ...Detroit. The home of rock n roll and coincidentally..the home of my other love.... off the hook bad ass automotive eye candy!!

My first concert was Kiss. My favorite show was Pink Floyd 'Animals Tour' in Cleveland when they flew a jet low over the stadium as they struck the first chord. And of course AC DC at the Palace. Angus Young playing the Gibson SG upside down onstage, epic!

But there's more than Rock n Roll, and this is how I get my roller coaster rocks off: Aggressives!
My son Joey  and I surf the half pipes at Modern Skate in Madison Heights. He skateboards and I drop into the six foot half pipe on Detroit born Inlliner Don Bambrick's Tiger Blue Razors. With all the adrenaline and exhileration of that first towering hill without the safety bar and seat belt!

Great regret? That my garage isn't big enough for all the cars I fantasize about owning.  Cadillac CTS-V, fast as a corvette--with the intimidating Dark Knight look and horsepower G forces unlike any other  muscle car. Zero to 60 in under four seconds.  One of the fastest rides I've been on outside of an aircraft.
The 2011 Mustang Boss 302, and heartstopper Dodge Challenger for three.

Best Meet and Greet? While I was working the KSEG Morning Show in Sacramento, I met Chuck Yeager, the test pilot who broke the sound barrier in the X-1. Second? Meeting the GM VP Bob Lutz when I raced in the Gran Prix's Neon Challenge.

Look how tough I'm trying to look in  last year's Best of Detroit Issue of Hour Magazine. Just look for the one that's titled "The Voice". That's me in the boxing gear, trying to look mean without looking bitchy.

Best buds? Black Chow Chow Pepper (named for one of my other favorite bands the Chili Peppers) and black cat Spike. And of course, not least, my handsome 6'4" son, Joey.
