I recently had the opportunity to speak with the incredibly talented husband wife folk duo JOHNNYSWIM at Lollapalooza 2014 in Chicago. We met up backstage before they took to the BMI stage to play for thousands of fans on the opening day of the festival.
The couple was everything and more I expected them to be. Extremely humble, charismatic and simply a breath of fresh air in the music scene. Amanda Sudano & Abner Ramirez, who make up JOHNNYSWIM, were more than excited to talk about the new album Diamonds and their recent success.
I asked how the couple get along so well being married, working and touring together. They both answered without missing a beat explaining how much they love each other and that Abner usually goes to watch a movie at the theater by himself and that usually does the trick giving them a couple hours of space. When the band first started out they would post YouTube videos giving fans the chance to see what the power couple was working on at the moment calling it New Music Monday's. They'd also perform covers of songs they both really liked. It's has been awhile since their last video so I asked if they planned to bring New Music Monday's back. Abner explained he had a just gotten a new camera and they are planning to give fans some new material in the very near future.
If you haven't seen any of the videos do yourself a favor and watch just one. I promise your heart will melt watching the way they look at each other! I jokingly explained to them that I thought they were the music equvilant of The Notebook.
I also asked how the couple stays so down to earth with all of their success, especially since the release of the album Diamonds. Amanda explained it's all about staying humble and grateful. They are happy people want to listen to their music, and they are truly thankful for any support they receive.
JOHNNYSWIM's debut full length album Diamonds is out now and you can also check out the music video for the new single "Home" below.
