peeps....let's start..checked out the new judas priest cd all weekend. it comes out
this week and it's called "angel of retribution". there's a little of everything
on this disc.
there's heavy - "judas rising","demonizer" and "hellrider"
there's soft - "angel"(there even some acustic guitars on this one) and "eulogy"
there's spinal tap - "lochness" do we need a song about ole nessy?? what's
next.."big foot??"
over all it's a decent rockin' cd that has traces of the early 90's cd
"painkiller" and some well placed rob halford screams. sometimes he sounds like a
piece of plywood going through a table saw. it's awesome!! there is no doubt this
is priest and it's almost like halford never left for the past 12 or 13 years. i
give it an 8 out of 10.

the next cd i'am looking foward to checking out is the new mudvayne. "lost and
found" comes out next month and so far it smokes. "happy?" and "determained" are 2
tracks i've heard and they kill. this band get's better with every record and this
one should be no different.

the new black lable society looks like it's going to be a great disc too. the new track we're playing is called "suicide messiah". this song couldn't sound more black sabbath influenced. the last cd was really laid back and mellow. this one sounds like it's back to what zakk does best.........rock!!

CHARITY HOCKEY ALERT!! the southgate police department takes on the taylor p.d. saturday march 5th at the southgate ice arena. all the proceeds go to help the family of sgt. michael scarbrough who was killed in a tragic car accident on I-94 about a month ago. tickets are just 2 bucks a piece but if you get a chance stop by and donate some cash to this great cause. then watch some truely horrid hockey!!!! LOL just kidding guys.....

finally check out my page for a chance at a 2004 harley cop motorcycle from the northville police dept. 20.00 dollars a ticket and only 3,000 will be sold. all the info is on this page.

send me an e-mail about anything you want...the one's with hot woman get opened first!!

a lot of people e-mailed and called me about my 30 seconds of fame on thediscovery channel's "biker build-off". it's a must see show for 2 wheeled freak's like me!! this past weeks episode was taped here in rochester hills with eric and
his team from voodoo choppers against cory ness and his unlimited access to some
of the baddest biker parts know to man.

when they filmed it back in late august early september i was on vacation and stopped by voodoo to see how the show was done. that's when the producer judd had the idea of filming something at the radio station and incorparating it into the show. they shot about 10-15 minutes worth of stuff to use. ever since then i've been wondering what would make it on the show if any. judd called me over the weekend and told me there was a nice piece on the show from the station but it might end up on the cutting room floor because the discovery people still had to chop another 6 minutes off. well, about 30 seconds of our in studio interview made the final cut. it's about as long as my pro hockey career lasted. i'm turning into a 30 second man...that can't be a good thing.

it was sweet to watch the show and a big congrats goes out to all the guys a voodoo as well as fabricator kevin and the boys from stevenson's cycle who built a sweet motor for the "digger" bike "superstition". even though they didn't win they built a great motorcycle complete with dual carbs, bright red paint, and a tiny gas tank that ran out of fuel every 35 miles or so. it replays again on february 26th at 6pm in case you missed it the first time.

speaking of motorcycles we'll be at the international motorcycle show this weekend at cobo. i'll be out there saturday from 2pm-5pm broacasting. stop by and say hi. i can't wait to pull my steel horse out of storage and fire it up..soon my friend, soon.

that's all for now.. a couple charity hockey games coming up soon which i'll hit on next time. THANKS FOR ROCKIN' WITH THE RIFF!!!!

wad up peeps!! had a pretty busy hockey weekend. went and checked out the game between the red wing alumni and the maple leafs alumni. not bad at all. pretty entertaining. it was tied so out came the shoot-out. a fan favorite. to say tim
cheveldae leaked like a sieve would be and understatement.

oh well...it was a charity game.

got to meet don edwards, the former sabre goalie, wendell clark, tony meckegnie, shawn burr and a few others. it was fun and referee matt pavolich was
on the money! that may have been one of the best ref'd games in the history of

the sport! "let the boys play" is mr. p's motto.

on sunday i took to the ice in a game against the alumni in port huron. i played on a team called the wertz warriors. what a blast. the guys where really cool and burr even let me have a couple break-aways. the first i flubbed through eddie mio's leg's. i'll take it. the second i tried going top shelf only to be rejected
like a girl on prom night! dino, pat peake, john findstrom, darren banks, dennis hextall, and mio where some of the former NHLer's to play against us.

here's a
picture of me and our fearless leader jeff AKA heavy d!

once again mr. pavolich was the official and i didn't think it could get any
better than the night before. boy was i wrong! that guy just gets better and better like fine wine. he knows a dive when he sees one and some guys tried to
pull the wool over his eyes but no sir. he makes the ref's in the WWE like like mere children!

gotta thank all the guys for a great time. i'll be at it again on april 16th when the alumni takes on the southfield P.D. at southfeild rink. i'm sure i'll be talking about it with art more times than he'll care to hear about it in the next month or so.

check out the "biker build off" on the discovery channel this coming tuesday night at 10pm. when they taped it back in august i interviewed eric from voodoo choppers and the film crew came to the station and taped it. i was told that i made the show but that discovery still had to chop 4 minutes off the show. i may end up on the floor! not the first time. but seriously i have to thank eric and all the guys from not only voodoo but the discovery channel as well who were so cool to me. should be a good show and i'am sure the D will be represented just fine!

thanks for all the e-mails and thanks for rockin' with the riff!!............later

Watch Meltdown play with the Mechanics. (Windows Media Player and high-speed internet required)

before i get to my pro hockey debut, i want to mention a couple hockey games going on this weekend. the first is at the joe when the red wing alumni take on the maple leaf alumni. should be a lot of fun. i'll be broadcasting down there that afternoon. a lot of big time names will be taking to the ice. don't miss it!

then sunday it's the red wings alumni verses wertz warriors, on which i'll be playing. it's in port huron at the mcmorran arena and fires up around 2pm. that should be sweet as well. hope to see you out there.

MCM020505_8now on to the game saturday night. first off i want to thank everybody from the motor city mechanics organization. over the weekend i skated the first shift of the game against kalamazoo. so i guess that i can now be called a pro hockey player. hell, between me and scotty bowman there's nine stanley cup rings!

my night started off at 5pm when i got to the rink. there's a lot of down time before the game begins so it's a lot of talking to the guys and just waiting. about 5 or 6 of the guys told me i should just drop the gloves right off the bat and beat down someone. never having fought on the ice before i wasn't sure if that was a good idea. derian hatcher told me that no one would remember me just skating around so should just throttle some dude. i asked him if he had my back to which he replied laughingly "NO!"

scrap that idea.

MCM020505_13went out during the pre-game warm up and rattled a few off the cross bar. i was told that was the thing to do to get the fans fired up. i didn't want to disappoint the fans now did i?

coach shannon told me before warm ups that i would start the game and not to get put in the sin bin. fair enough.

it was getting near time and we had to line up according to #'s for player introductions. i wanted to wear #11 but jeff goldie already had that #. so i went to my back up #7. last week i was told it was not taken so that was the digit i would wear. little did i know that chris chelios would come in and snag it from me. that's cool. off to #14. the final number of the whole "french connection" line. there's one for the diehard hockey fans to remember.

they announced my name and i skated out there just thinking the whole time "don't fall down." on the way to the ice i stepped on some concrete, so i was hoping that i still had an edge on my right skate. no problem.

MCM020505_16karen newman sang the national anthem then doug podell came out and dropped the ceremonial first puck. then it was time to strap it up and get her going.

a lot of people asked me what chelios was telling me during the anthem and before the game started. it was cool because he knew i was a little nervous and was just giving me some advise and i think trying to keep me from screwing up on my shift. he was a big help and having him give me tips before the game was something i won't forget soon. he told me "don't let any of these guys hit you... if you get in trouble get it deep" and some other things that i can't remember because my adrenaline was flowing big time. it's kind of funny that i've played pick-up hockey with him for the last 4 months but this was the first time i was ever on the same team as him. that was cool. captain blair manning was at center, jeff doyle on the right with big hatch, and cheli on the blue line. how sweet is that!

the opening puck dropped and away we went. i couldn't believe that right off the bat the goalie from the other team went into the corner to get the puck with his defensemen as well as doyle. i found myself in front of an empty net for a split second. nothing came of that and the play went back down the ice only to come back into the offensive zone then got cleared. the defensemen skated back towards the boards and cleared the puck past me. the first thing that coach shannon asked me when i got to the bench was why didn't i drill that guy? to be honest i've been playing so much none-check hockey that i didn't even think of it. that's my shift in a nutshell. i should have video up on the page soon.

MCM020505_2i skated back to the bench. john the trainer opened the door for me and said "you're a pro hockey player now meltdown." that was cool. i didn't get another shift. i think the deal between the teams was one shift so that's all i got. but it was awesome! sitting at the end of the bench there's a walkway that goes out to a hallway and during the third period i heard someone say "meltdown rocks" behind me. i turned to find the bullgod himself kid rock. he came to the game but told me he missed my shift. guitarist jason krause did see it and told me he couldn't believe it was me and that he was super jealous. went out to hatchy's and finished out the night to the kid on stage with the band. what a great night!

there's a bunch of people i want to thank. team owner walter cohen, team president john tull who put it all together. garry unger, mark davis, steve shannon, john blum, jeff marshall, john caloia, shannon green, adam kaufman, lauren segall ,"thunder" dan, david cohen, and everyone in the front offices.

and a big thanks to my teammates. all the guys were great and i can't wait to do this again sometime soon. if you get a chance go out and support these guys who are making a very modest living doing what they love to do....play hockey!

2/2
well, i'm getting ready for my pro debut this coming saturday night with the motor city mechanics. kris draper, derien hatcher and chris chelios will be some of my teamates. with this whole lock-out thing going on in the NHL, i've had the chance to skate with all of these guys for about the last 4 months or so.

about 3 months ago the mechanics came up to me about the idea of skating one shift with the team. i picked this weekend's game not knowing that a packed house and NHLer's on my team would await. but i have to be honest, the guys on the team have treated me pretty well, pushing me to do better and encouraging me along the way. everyone in the coaching staff has been very helpful also.

the truth be known, i want to help them even if it's just in a little way. these guys are playing for the love of the game and very little money just to try to make it someday in the big show. when drapes, hatch, and cheli came into the locker room, it was cool to see the other guys in awe of the whole situation. these guys don't see 6 or 7 cameramen for local and national newscasts in their locker room every day. on the other hand, the guys from the Wings really just wanted to blend in and play so they didn't try to overshadow the other guys as much as possible. can't wait to play. hope to see you out there!

checked out the biker build-off on the discovery channel the other night. the detroitbros took home the trophy and did the motor city proud. i was able to see the winning bike last week and it's pretty sweet. it's known as "modern ghetto." i have to thank jamie and dave for coming on the show monday night. one more detroit boy will make his appearance on the show coming up -- eric from voodoo choppers. that's on february 22nd and there might even be an appearance from me. don't blink cause you might miss my part! congrats to all the guys for being picked to be on the show. i love watching it and it just makes me crazy looking outside knowing i'm not going to get on my hog for another few months.

one last thing. i hosted a bash at walkers speakeasy in dearborn heights over the weekend. i have to thank george and his staff for a great night. vinny and the boys from sponge kicked ass as well as the guys from 50 cent headrush; and the bar is pretty cool. it's at joy and beech daly on the southwest side. it also seems to be a hangout for strippers, which is never and bad thing. stop in sometime when your on that side of town and suck back a few.

1/27
wad up!!!...skated with the motor city mechanics for the first time today. i'm not used to "practicing." i normally just go out there in true beer league hack style and light it up!! we'll see how my practicing goes as i take to the ice with the guys for real on february 5th. come on out to frasier and check it out for yourself. to order tickets call 1-866-997-puck.

as i write this there is no NHL hockey going on and it looks like there may not be any this year! that would suck hardcore. now there is really nothing worth watching on CBC. they might as well shut that station off!!

the new judas priest kicks ass. can't wait to hear the rest of it. "angel of retribution" comes out on march 1st. i like the fact that they didn't try to change to much. sometimes bands try to go with the current trends and it just sounds so contrived. priest know what they do best and so far have delivered.

speaking of hogs i'm jonesin' to get back on mine. after checking out the builder bike off last tuesday with finch from pontiac, i went home and looked at mine all wrapped up for the long winter nap. i thought the show was good and finch's bike deservedly won the episode. jesse rooke seems like a spoiled rich kid from the west coast. i thought his bike was cool but i'm not into these motorcycles that like "bikes." the guys from www.detroitbros.com will be on this tuesday. i think they may pop up on the air and give us a rundown on the show early next week. soon enough i'll pull mine back out and beat the streets of the motor city.

we are already getting request's for charity rides. keep checking my page for details on a bunch coming up as well as harleyfest 2005. just another reminder that i might make a small appearance on the biker build off show on february 22nd. check out eric and the guys from www.voodoochoppers.com for more about that. detroit is represented big time in this very popular discovery channel show.

i like this plate!!! i'm sure someone has complained about this already. some people have no sense of "hummer" er..humor!

i have a lot of things to get to so here it goes....

first off, check out the wild game dinner coming feb 12. slipknot coming to town and i can't wait. it's on a saturday too so i'll be able to check out the show. march 12th to be exact. it's going to kick major ass!! see you there. there's a ton of things going on before that show though. i'll go in order: february 5th i take to the ice with the motor city mechanics. the league has ok'd one shift so i shouldn't get hurt too bad. who knows, maybe i'll get more. if i light the lamp maybe they'll sign me... ok that's just me living in a dream world but show up to find out. february 8th the magic stick downtown will fill with the quiet tones of mudvayne!!! i've only heard a couple tracks of the new cd "lost and found" but they smoke! after seeing these guys open the summer sanitarium with metallica, linkin park, bizkit, and the deftones i'm sold on them. they are awesome in concert. check out my interview with matt the drummer here on the page. february 22nd i might make an appearance on the discovery channel's "bike build-off." eric and the guys from voodoo cycle out of rochester got on the show to do battle with legendary bike builder arlen ness's son cory. the discovery channel crew came to the station and filmed me interviewing eric and cory back in september. hopefully they'll use a few seconds of that and keep me off the cutting room floor. that starts at 10pm on the 22nd. finally just a little hollywood magic. if you watch the movie "dodgeball" hit the enter button on you remote control every time ben stiller snaps his fingers. it takes you to hidden parts of the dvd. check out more "eggs" and www.eeggs.com . there are a ton of them. by the way the movie "napolean dynamite" is funny as hell. go get it! i'm out of here like the NHL season..talk to you later

here we go for the first time in 2005. hope y'all had a great christmas and new year. mine was cool. the kid rock christmas party was the highlight for me. drinking, good people, tara reid! it was fun. i'll leave it at that.

motley crue is coming back and so are all the rumors. will mick mars even tour with his bad health? dude weighs like 111 lbs! tommy lee was said to be only touring because of the separate buses. and i have to be honest, i've never seen vince this positive. i interviewed him back in the middle of december and could not believe how fired up he appeared to be about touring, his singing, and the band in general.

on new years day the tv show "remaking vince neil" was on VH1. i asked him about this during our conversation and he expressed nothing but a good attitude about it. after watching it i think he's really turned his life around. i've met and interviewed him many times before and he's always been a little bit of a challenge. (especailly if he's been boozing) but talking to him last month was like talking to a different guy. it all remains to be seen what happens this year to the crue on tour, but one thing is for sure... it won't be normal. bet on that!

keep it on the riff as we hook you up for everything crue for the february 25th show at the palace.

i did leave a message on my page during the holiday break about the upcoming, or lack there of, NHL season. it all depends who you talk to as far as what you'll hear. i've heard that both scotty bowman and barry melrose have had good things to say as far as the season getting underway. then i've heard some guys saying the complete reverse. one thing is for sure, the NHL can not afford to take a whole year off and expect to be the "4th" sport anymore. they were lucky to be in the top 10 last year. the NHL playoff's got beat in the ratings by the poker championships for god sake! january 14th will tell the tale as to whether they play or go home. and we'll see what happens. hit the ice boys!

i'll be broadcasting this friday at the emerald ballroom this friday night. if you've ever wondered what your missing there on fridays, take a look at sara.....'nugh said.

just a word for my fellow hockey fans...my people are telling me that the NHL season may start at the end of january...maybe a little holiday positivism, but i've been told some very optimistic things about the lock-out situation...let's fire it up...it's been a cold winter!!

12/22

i'm out this bitch for a week!! i'll be back for the big new years bash at the emerald. hope you can make it up there. in the mean time have a great christmas and rockin' 2005..............meltdown

12/15
where to begin? last thursday godsmack was in town and that meant a chance to fire up a game of hockey with robbie. when he's not banging way on the bass he laces up the skates and takes to the frozen pond. here's some pictures from that.

then it was off to L.A. for the motley crüe press conference to announce their upcoming tour. to say this was a well kept secret would the furthest thing from the truth. this thing was leaked big time.

i got to L.A. on sunday afternoon. i leave detroit at noon, it's sunny but a bit chilly. i get to california at 2:30 their time and it's cloudy, rainy, and about 45 degrees. that sucked bad.

but the trip was sweet. from the swanky hotel i stayed in to all the B rated celebs i saw. pauly shore, steve o, davey from AFI, scott ian from anthrax, fred coury from cinderella, the guys from orgy, deano formally of fear factory, smile empty soul as well as mike from linkin park and that ette chick from www.metal-sludge.tv.

the party after the concert from the crüe was at the world famous whiskey. tommy lee was spinning and really getting into it. nikki showed up in the hears that brought the boys to the palladium earlier that night. he came with his wife donna derrico who i was introduced to. that may have made the 2,000 plus mile trip worth every inch. she is how shall we say..oh ya...HOT!!!

afterwards i went and had a bite to eat at the rainbow then headed next door to the roxy for the band metal skool. i had heard a lot about these guys and i was going to make it a must see. this girl i know named erica told me to go to the front door and ask for a guy named steve, throw her name around and he would let me and whoever i brought with me in. long story short - i'm out $12.50..thanks erica!

metal skool was awesome. they are a spoof on 80's hair metal and are a really good band to boot. if you ever get the chance to see them i highly recommend it. tell steve i sent you then pay your $12.50.

all in all the trip was great. check out my trip pics below. more next week...later

hey cyber freaks........

a lot of people showed up saturday night to snag velvet revolver tickets at 5th avenue downtown. those tix are hot and the velvet rope parties are going to be great chances to score them. the next one is thursday at johnny g's right next to the emerald in mt. clemens. i'll be hosting a bash this saturday in northville at the wagon wheel. it is going to rock so be there!!!!!!

i'll also be at joe panian chevy this friday between 4pm and 6pm. i am lucky enough to be their "voice" on the RIFF and i can't wait to get there and pimp chevys live and in person! i don't endorse many things. that's by design. but these guys really treat people cool and there is nothing like a nice piece of americana rolling down the street's of the D. and they can hook you up big time with some sweet extra's for your ride.

just as the concert season looked to be slowing down, it starts to crank back up. manson, shinedown, deftones, velvet revolver, sevendust, megadeth, slayer, and more. keep it locked on WRIF for details and tickets.

hey people.......

the plymouth chili cook-off was pretty sweet. tons of bikes everywhere. the day was decent too so it brought out a record crowd.

i was once again a judge of chili. for a guy who can barely toast bread, i don't know what kind of judge i make, but i do my best and like trying out the chili's. some were a little saucy for me. i like meat!! and lots of it. maybe i should just judge hamburgers! i also don't like them too hot and even as i type this (with 2 fingers) i can still feel heat on my tongue from some of them.

i will be at 5th ave. downtown this saturday night with stacks of velvet revolver tickets to give away. that show is in mt. clemens nov 23rd and the only way to get them is through the RIFF....so be there..

finally fred from ohio e-mailed this to me. it speaks for itself!!! i just want to know where this road is. it's not hines drive that's for sure!!

hey y'all

a lot of you e-mailed me about the hockey game on friday. robbie from godsmack played with us again and we got more than we bargained for. let me start from the beginning.

i talked to robbie a month ago and then he called me a week ago to make sure we were playing. this dude loves getting out on the ice as much as i do. so when i talked to him i scheduled the ice and called up some guys to play.

he told me to give him a call on thursday to remind him about it. no problem i thought. you see, godsmack was playing up the upper part of michigan on thursday and when i called him i got no response. now i'm thinking that he forgot and won't make it. but i know he is a hockey freak like me so there is no way he is not going to show. 9am friday morning my cell phone rings. 3 hours before ice time. he was in B F E and could not get or return calls. he said he had 12 messages on his machine and couldn't call any back because of no service. cool. we're in business.

i drive out to the palace and pick him up along with his camara guy paul who filmed some of it. maybe it will show up on their next DVD. anyways, we get to the rink and on the ice is nick lindstrom, manny lagace, igor larinov, arron ward, etc.  one of the first guys i see is NHLPA big shot bob goodenow.

brian smolinski from the senators was suppose to play with us, and he did, but not until attending a meeting out in the parking lot with all the boys and goodenow. it's not looking good for the NHL this year. we'll see.

back to the game. robbie was fired up that "smoke" was playing with us because he played for boston and robbie's a huge bruins fan. even though smoke didn't bring the thunder (he didn't want to hurt the goalie!!) it was still sweet that he came out and skated with us. everyone was fired up to play with a veteran NHLer.

afterwards i guess some guys went to trumpps or somewhere, while robbie and i had to go to "work." i had to broadcast live from the show and he had to go and rehearse.

around 5:15 we took a bunch of RIFF listeners backstage to the metallica meet and greet. this may have been the longest meet and greet i've ever seen. it lasted until about 8pm. there was a lot of waiting but when a band member came in they took pictures, signed stuff and really talked to the people who were there.

robert was first followed by kirk then james. those guys were all in the room at the same time. when they left it was about an hour of nothing until lars came in. just like the other guys he walked from person to person shook hands, asked them thier name, singed their stuff then did photo's with them. they really tried to "touch" everyone as apposed to some other meet and greets i've been to with other bands.

at 6pm toby from metallica's staff came and grabbed me to interview james. he took me to a small room in the palace and told me to chill there for a few. after about a 10 minute wait james walked in. he was awesome and talked about everything from cliff burton to dave mustaine to the next cd. check it the interview on my page. after we talked he hung out with us for a couple minutes and BSed with myself and ron from promotions. it wasn't like he did the interview then bolted.

at 7:20 they came and got me again. it was time to go onstage before godsmack to welcome the crowd. normally they have a bunch of rules of what you can and can't say. i was prepared for this. i got up to the stage manager and said "what's the rules?". he replied "have fun!" and just handed me the mic. that was a first! i went on the huge stage and just said whatever i could before i had walked all the way a round.

metallica took the stage shortly after 9pm and killed as they always have. fuel, seek and destroy, disposable heroes (personal fave), enter sandman, one. it was a great night!!!

see you guys at the chili cook-off in plymouth this sunday. if you have a harley you should be there.

just like the tigers season... i'm over!!

hey!!!!!!!!!

over the weekend i saw something i would never see. no not arthur working a full week, i saw ron from our crack promotion staff get married at the biker bash. dressed in a rented tux (i'm almost sure he had a great white t-shirt on under his suit) he tied the knot with his girlfriend chris in a 20 minute ceremony capped off by ron saying "yea baby yea!!!" when asked for the i do's. good luck to both of them. especially chris. i know ron!

what a great day for a ride. more than 2,000 bikes came out to help out the st. joseph's pediatric unit, suck beers and check out some cool bands.

what a ride too. the police escorted ride was awesome! the cops ALWAYS do a great job blocking off traffic and keeping the ride moving.

this friday night the boys from metallica come to town. i saw the show in chicago at the end of august, and it's pure metallica in the round. from start to finish the show rocks. i personally liked the screens that show just about every angle of the stage you can imagine. have you ever seen how lars uses his feet on his kick drums? you will! have you ever seen up james' nose as he's singing? you will! you get the picture.

plus the center of the stage moves -- really slow. pay attention. of course be on the look out for pyro and light show second-to-none by my buddy butch.

godsmack opens the show. robbie from the band will once again take to the ice with me and some of my friends friday afternoon. robbie is a hockey freak like me! last time we played it was sweet. we had about 20 skaters and had a blast on the ice. this year could be a little different. i know for a fact a couple guys who are, how shall we say, er... "out of work" will be playing. brian smolinski from the ottawa senators is coming and robbie is fired up about that. "smoke" played for boston and robbie ,being from that part of the country, is a huge bruins fan. a couple other guys are in the works too, but i don't want to say anything yet. i'll write about it all next week. should be cool.

are any of you guys fired up about the "chase for the championship" in nascar???

what songs are you digging now???

do you miss the nhl???

and finally... is this chick hot or what?? she was going through metro airport and some of the fine officers down there took her picture and sent it to me. i think it looks like a dead heat in the zeppelin race!!

a lot of things happening in the "big unit's" world right now. first off, thanks to eric from VooDoo Choppers and good luck to him. i've been putting him on the air here and there as he gets a scooter ready for the discovery channel's "biker build off" program. his competition is none other than corey ness son of the legendary arlen ness. to say that he's got his work cut out for him is an understatement. but as he put's it, he would rather go up against someone like him than a builder who doesn't have as big a profile. good luck bro. i'm pulling for you.

i also have to give a shout to his team of builders helping him, from kevin to drew to the guys from stevenson cycles. also the discovery crew. these guys are so cool and they really do their best to put a good product on the air. it's working. judd, steve, doug and melissa are great people and it was cool as hell meeting them.

the episode airs sometime in february. keep it on the riff and we'll let you know when it's on. be sure to check it out.

speaking of bikes, september 26th is the 2nd annual "biker bash" at wolverine harley in mt. clemens. last year we had well over 1,000 bikes for the first ever bash. it was a great ride too. this year is a little different. we'll still have ton's of bikes, food and bands but you'll also see a wedding. that's right, ron from our crack promotional staff has decided to tie the knot at the event. i bust ron's balls all the time, but truth be known he's a pretty good dude and hopefully we can get through the whole service without someone objecting to him and chris getting hitched or some sort of bachelor party hang-over vomit happening. just busting his balls. see

saturday afternoon i hung at carls golfland in bloomfield hills. it's right on telegraph just north of square lake. i may never make par but i love smacking the little white ball around. that place is sweet. i had never been there before and didn't realize how big the driving range in the back was. we gave away ryder cup tickets and rounds at brea burn in plymouth.

i have to thank our golf pro perry for improving my horrible form and thus helping out my shots. he doesn't look as good as this golf pro but he did a great job out there with all of us.

i'm out gone like my awful golf swing......

i'll be at carl's golf land saturday afternoon. that's on telegraph just north of square lake. come out and grab some ryder cup stuff and maybe i'll even show you a thing or 2 on the driving range!!(right?!?!?)

coming up the weekend of the 25th is a sweet motorcycle run leaving wolverine harley in mt. clemons. it's about a 60 mile run and there's always bands, babes and beer's....the 3 must's for any good run! keep it on the riff for more details as we get closer.

that's all for know...i'm engaged in a conversation about dungeons and dragons with steve black and tiny.........somebody help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8/31/2004

hey people!!

i'm on vacation but i had to put up something because of the awesome weekend i had. let's get to it!

worked till about 2 am thursday tying up some lose ends and then made my way home just to get up at 7am and catch a flight to chicago friday morning. why you ask?!? i had to go see metallica at the rosemont center.

i was going there to interview jamz, kirk and robert from metallica as well as all the guys from godsmack. about 8 radio stations from around the country were there to do the same. we all had shows upcoming on the tour at each city

when i got to the windy city i was informed that the guys from godsmack could come by at any time so i had better get there when i could. knowing how rock stars function i had a feeling that i would be there for a while before i saw any sign of the boys. that was cool because we got the tour of the metallica stage and i talked to some of the crew as well.

first the stage. it's in the round. which as someone told me "it's like having 4 front rows". what they do is hang the lighting from the middle of the arena and build the stage in one end of the ice surface. then when the lights go up, the stage is pushed under them to the center of the arena. this takes a lot of people to do. normally i tend to avoid the roadies because i don't want to get in their way or bother them. they have a tough enough job as it is without me causing them problems. but this time they brought the guys to us. i was told that they don't like to talk to us (radio guys) because we make them nervous. i ended up talking to the stage manager, lighting guy, head of security and even fan club guys. some of you die-hards might know nichlos the web-site guru. hung with him too. he took some pictures of james and i that he said were suppose to be up on the site. check it out if you get a chance.

first, in came the godsmack guys around 2pm. i talked with robbie and shannon first. robbie said he was up for another hockey game when they come to detroit like we did last time. he plays whenever he can and i don't turn down ice ever!! shannon being the good irish boy that he is had a shamrock shirt on and green cowboy hat.

they went their way to other stations when sully and tony came over. as soon as i saw tony all i could think of was the exposed section of metal-sludge.tv with his old cover band. pretty funny. anyhow, bs'ed with them for a few as well. you hear all these interviews on the riff as we get closer to the show.

then the metallica boys came by about 4pm. the first one i interviewed was kirk. he's always been nice and talked for about 10 minutes about the band, surfing, "some kind of monster" flick, jason newstead and other stuff. like robert, he never really looks at you when you're talking to him. he tends to look down like he's shy or that he can't believe anybody would want to know about him. like i said, he was very cool, cut some id's for the station, grabbed a picture, and away he went.

next up was jamz. he is the biggest "rock star" of the bunch. stands about 6 feet tall, killer tattoos and just has a dude-factor about him. christ, he JAMES HETFIELD!!! he's also super nice and pretty open about things. i should mention that all the crew guys love working for metallica. none of them had a bad thing to say about any of the guys. back to james. we talked about the movie, his hot rods, touring, and some general stuff. he said that he has changed a lot over the last few years. i could talk with this guy for hours but you only have a few minutes so you ask what you can and he goes to another station. really cool guy.

robert came by last. did you ever meet someone who loves his job??? that's robert. this dude glows about the position he's in, and like kirk and some of the other crew guys told me, he has really loosened up the band. not a bad word was spoken towards him all day. he told me a really funny story about ozzy, talked about being in the biggest band in the world, and how to pronounce his last name. you'll have to listen.

they split around 6 pm and so did we. back to the hotel, drop off our recording stuff and then back to the show. went and grabbed dinner and saw the last song of godsmack's set. lights come back on and the wait for the might met starts.

about an hour before they take to the stage they go to their "tuning room." they just jam and sometime come up with riffs that they might use somewhere down the road, or they rehearse a song they might play that night that they haven't done in a long time. all of these sessions are recorded. we walked right by the room on the way to see the concert and could hear lars banging away.

during the show i was standing right next to lars' parent and his new squeeze.  not too shabby being a rock star. the show was awesome as you would expect with james using all of the 12 mics at his disposal, lars getting up and down from his drum kit all night, PYRO, surprise songs they played, and that stage set-up which was real sweet.

the night ended at about 3am in the hotel bar, which was late seeing that i had to be back at o'hare at 8am! that was just the start of my long weekend and right now i'm sick of typing.  you'll hear all interviews as we gear up for the show october 1st. get your tickets and don't be left behind.... i gotta go vacation!!!!!!!!! later

off on vacation!!!! it's been a while. since christmas to be exact. starting off va-ca in chicago checking out metallica. i'll be interviewing the boys in both metallica and godsmack as well. keep it locked on the riff all the way up to showtime right here in detroit october 1st at the palace of auburn hills. hear the interviews, win tickets and more. YOUR OFFICIAL HOME OF METALLICA!!! accept no weak ass imitations!

speaking of metallica, i hopped on the hog and rode out to jackson and checked out "some kind of monster." it was kinda like "a year and 1/2 in the life of metallica" that came out back in the early 90's.

going to try to check out kid rock's third show at DTE. i think the last shows are always the best. he has a couple days off afterwards to rock, and the whole band lays it out. some of my vacation may include checking out the band in new york as well. we'll see. as you can tell i don't know what the hell i'm going to do with a week off! i'll do a lot of riding for sure.

good luck to eric and all the guys at voodoo choppers in roch. they're going to be on an upcoming biker build off episode on the discovery channel. i love watching that show. i might even take a swing by and check out the progress during my vacation. i've got that going for me too. see, i really have nothing to do for a week, so i'll just do whatever.
that's all i got for now...see you after labor day.............later

hey people!!
thanks to everyone who rode last sunday to benefit the family of officer sawyers. we had over 500 guys donate to the cause and as usual the cops did an awesome job stopping traffic. the ride went for over 50 miles and not a car in front of us on 696 or 75. that doesn't happen often. now if i could just figure a way to have them in front of me on the way to work i would have it made!

m.i.s. this weekend should be good. i love going out there. we'll be behind the main grandstand broadcasting. swing by if you come out to the irish hills and say what-up! here's my prediction: tony stewart makes it 2 in a row. big question is going to be who gets the 10th and final spot in the chase for the championship. ryan newman has been slipping and the evernham boys (kahne and mayfield) have been coming on strong. either way should be fun down the stretch.

big run heading out of abc harley this saturday..check out the hawg section of the site. later.

hey peeps...
a lot of things to get to today, so here it goes....

first off, had a blast at the arthur p golf outing friday night. my team finished -2 and were +38 in the beer department! one of the guys on my team is a friend of mine named bill. he called me last week to see if he could get in the tourney by himself. i made a couple calls and got him in. next thing i know, he's on my team. let me set the picture: think of the loudest, rudest, drunkest person you know. then add a little bit to that!...that's bill. i get to devil's ridge and not only is he on my team, he's coming in on the trumpp's party bus! in other words, he had a huge head start on the rest of us. when bill gets drunk foul language flies out of him like cheesy puffs flying into michael moore's mouth. at every hole the strippers knew bill by name.  we'll leave that one alone. needless to say, we didn't use too many of his shots but had a great time!

did i mention how hot the emerald theater girls are?? they were at a hole and it's always nice seeing them!!

george blaha was there at the dinner afterwards and was awesome. i did feed him some lines that i'm sure he'll use on tv this coming season. (maybe not.) i didn't even have to show him the ski-hook to prove to him that i was the real deal. he knew i was retarded from the time he met me!LOL

this weekend we are riding in a charity run for the officer who was killed in sterling heights in june. check out the hawg rides section of the site for all the details. it's all to help officer sawyer's family and we need to raise some money for them. try to make it out for this great cause. should be fun.

i also want to say wad-up to the guys in the dirty americans. they came into the studio last wednesday, and let me tell you they are a bunch of nice guys. sometimes in this business dicks go far and the real people get left behind. let's hope that it doesn't happen in this case. they are playing all over michigan and ohio in the weeks to come. they're opening up for alice cooper. go check them out and tell them i sent you. scope their website for details.

that's all for now...later

hope all's well with you guys. half way through summer and still a lot of stuff to get to. there's a motorcycle ride coming up on august 21st to benifit the make-a-wish foundation. keep it locked on the riff for more details... should be a good ride.

on august 28th,before the kid rock show, we'll be playing softball with the farmington hills police dept. for charity. they always put me on the team with has been pro athletes and they bring my play down!! LOL i mean we always get smoked by the P.D. who are pretty good players. on our team will be drew lane, mike and marc from the morning show, trudi, screamin' scott, shawn burr, manny legace, johnny O. some former tigers and some other red wings. you can see how my talent cannot shine with these guys backing me up!!?!?..they had better bring game!! LOL it will be played at the diamonds next to the farmington hills ice arena on 8 mile... hey, maybe we should just play hockey instead!!!

this week i make the trek up to devils ridge golf course for the annual arthur p. golf outing. this has truly become one of my favorite things to do each year. it's the only time i show off my golf prowess and amaze my team with unbelievable shot's and putt's. ok, that not true but it is a great day off and i love giving the big guy a bunch of shit about it on the air. it's the only time i have to get out on the links and it's kinda fun. i've been at 3 arthur p tourney's before and i've golfed a total of...em... lets see...3 times in my life. this will be #4. hopefully i'll be better than last year. as long as the beers don't kick in too fast i'll be allright. i also can't wait to tell george blaha about my devastating "sky - hook." to the guys here at work, it's like a puzzle that can't be sloved!

just some things i've observed..

* john kerry and john edwards touch each other more that 2 men should get a room!

* dale earnhardt jr may have burned his chances for a championship this year!

* have you ever seen micheal moore and louie anderson in the same room?

* i miss hockey!!

check out these pics of our u.s. military...go get em' boys...and girls!!!

i'm gone like john daley's diet program...

hey y'all

got a lot of reaction from the glenn dazig clip on my page..pretty funny stuff. i've had some good interviews with him and other one's where i've wanted to slug him too.

saw nickleback and three doors down over the weekend in new york. have to thank my boy bob from universal records for the hook-up.

i didn't get to see the bands in the D a couple weeks back so i fired up the road trip and saw them sunday. puddle of mudd and 12 stones opened up. from what i understand nickleback is "headlining" all the northern show's while 3DD does the southern shows.

both bands were good. 3DD played a couple new songs too. they've been on the road supporting the "away from the sun" cd for a long time so i half expected a new track or two. the one song was called "father's son" and was a fairly heavy 3DD song. kinda dark too.

nickleback was cool. i've seen these guys about 3 or 4 other times. i'm not sure if chad purposely tries to play the whole "rock star" thing or if it's just his "spinal tap" style, but just the way he plays his guitar and interacts with the crowd is straight ahead "rock" show. i'm not saying there's anything wrong with that; he's pretty good at it. he just seems to grab a lot of rock n roll clichés and put them into one show and i can't tell if he's trying to amuse the road crew or maybe i've seen too many shows!! LOL

i really thought of spinal tap during one of the songs when fire just engulfed the whole drum riser. don't they know that drummers are very combustible?!?!?!

one of the most interesting things i saw, which i have never seen before at a show, where girls at the corner of the stage "signing" all the songs. there was a section of deaf people at the show and 2 ladies switch off using their hands to tell the people what the band is singing. i have to admit that every time someone swore on stage i had to watch how the ladies with their very animated expressions passed it along to the crowd. when 3DD was on they knew most of the words, but when nickleback took to the stage it was funny to watch them shrug their shoulders when they couldn't understand the lyrics or what chad was saying. they where very good at what they do and when i told them i was going to mention them on my page, they signed to me "cool."

before my trip i was at milan dragway on saturday afternoon. let me just say that if you've never seen top fuel dragsters in action, you haven't lived. 7000 horse power is hard to describe, but it's got to feel like getting blasted by a mike tyson punch .....x 1,000. these things are awesome and i look forward to it every year. the jet cars, wheel standers etc. ask anybody that went and i'm sure they will give it glowing reviews too.

that's all for now. later.

hey y'all

check out glen danzig getting blasted by some dude from an unsigned band. i just wonder if he was calling for his "mother" while he was on the canvas!!! sorry...had to do it.

gotta say a big "dat a boy" to joe schwartz from st. clare shores. dude's tying the knot soon and i made to his bachelor party saturday night. i had never met joe before so you might be asking "why was i hanging with him over the weekend?". this is where the story gets funny.

saturday afternoon some guys i ride with were at a party store in wayne. they see a bunch of dudes lugging a keg out of the place and start talking to them. they tell my boys they're have a party for joe who is getting hitched. somehow, and i don't know how, my name gets brought up and they invite us all over for the bash. well i had to be at pub 13 in ypsi that night and i get a call at about 6pm asking if i would come out early and make this dudes night by crashing his party. why i would make his night i'm not sure. i would understand if i had double D's and cute names for vibrators, but whatever.

so we show up at this dude chuck's house on this sweet golf course sub in romulus. there's about 12-15 guys there and they're well on their way when we arrived. joe is doing beer bongs after beer bong and ends up blowing chunks 10 minutes after we get there. and i'm not talking running into the bathroom or around the corner of the house. i'm talking right next to us in front of all his cheering buddies. it was awesome! 10 minutes later he's back to sucking beers!! PUKE AND RALLY all the way.

not a bad time for never having met any of these guys and we only stayed 45 minutes. one more thing, i have to say hi to his boy michael vincent kuntz. that's his real name. (insert your own joke here). had a great time.

i'll be at milan dragway saturday afternoon. love that place and i wish i could get out there more often. i'll be there from 4pm-6pm with all sorts of swag. check out the cars grabbing ground down on the 1/4 mile.

i'm gone like joe's freedom...

i don't know what it is, well ok i do, but i watch that show "the simple life" each week. something about paris hilton is so hot. maybe it's just her! i've gotten some smokin' e-mails form listeners with her. i wish i could post some here, but it's not for little eyes. as far as the ritchie chick goes, you can keep her. just a tip. the best way to view the show is with the volume down!!

speaking of dumb broads, eminem's ex kim mathers could be one of the stupidest people walking the planet. how hard is it to stay out of jail and collect a fat check every month. apparently it's too tough for her as she heads to the slammer for a year after breaking her probation.

keep it locked on the RIFF for a couple upcoming motorcycle rides. one of them is a benefit and one is for a great cause and has some big celeb riders... keep it locked... that's all i'm saying... .

check out www.thesmokinggun.com for the metallica rider from earlier this year. one of the longest i've ever seen though nothing really out of the ordinary. they have some other riders too. click on backstage and check out the foo fighters and others. the old story about van halen asking for certain m &m 's is legendary now. they only asked for those to see if the promoter followed through with the things they needed.

a couple things to hit this week.

* i've had my new harley from motor city harley for about 3 weeks now. people ask me what i think. i like it now when i get my loud pipes i'll love it!!. they come out of the factory too quiet.

* thanks to everyone who played in the riff/labatt hockey tourney. my wrif team took the top spot in the lower division and 5th ave. won the upper league.  it's a fun tourney and a good reason to get out and skate during the summer.
special thanks to my team...alex, steve, boxer, sammy, andre, ronnie, john m,Z, mark, rob, matt, eric, john h ,joe ,jags and fish.

* looking forward to the long weekend. i'll be hosting a bash at hockeytown this saturday night. stop up, have a beer and check out the daytona race on the TV's. i start at 9pm.

that's all for now... gotta love the french!

thanks to everyone who swung be harleyfest. i had a lot of work to do to get ready.

friday night i hosted four-play friday at the emerald (have i mentioned how hot the shot girls are there!! smokin'). earlier in the day i was watching some weather shmuck on tv and he said the rain was done for the weekend. great! i'll ride my shiney, clean harley that i need for harleyfest to the emerald....mistake!! about 10:30 i see on a tv behind the bar a weather map and it didn't look good. an old friend of mine who is an anchorman once told me that the green on a weather map doesn't mean grass. well all of the bottom half of michigan was covered in "grass". so i rode 52 miles home in the rain then had to get up early and wash the HD. i can't possibly ride a crusty scooter on a nice summer day now can i?

thankfully the ride was 100 percent better than my ride home friday night. we did have a early scare though. brain smolinski's chopper quit on him when he was riding over to meet us for the ride. luckily the guys at bishop's performance on grand river in redford were open and found that his battery cable had popped off.

with that problem down, we headed for motor city harley davidson. kenny olsen from kid rock's twisted brown trucker band, a guy named tom who donated to charity to ride up front with me and brian led about 1,500 bikers into harleyfest and the party started.

this is by far one of my favorite events every year. i love checking out the bands, babes, and beers...a good party has the three B's and harleyfest has an abundance of all three every time.

a guy named scott from waterford won the harley, the ford truck, the cash and the trip to mardi gras. this year they put me in charge of "turning" the key for the contest winners. your always wondering in the back of your mind if it's possible that some one had picked the right key but you didn't turn it the right way or something like that. thankfully that didn't happen and #99 was the lucky one for scott. he was fired up to say the least.

all in all harleyfest was awesome and thanks to everyone who stopped out and helped raise tons of money for MDA.

the riff hockey team keeps rolling winning saturday night in the "labatt's hockey tourney". now it's off to the playoff's this weekend in rochester. we are 3-0 and i hear rumblings that we might face a pretty solid team. i'll keep you posted.

sunday got up early and headed out to MIS at the june race the riff has a "viewing" trailer that sits inside turn one at the end of pit road. awesome view, catered and shaded. i got my media pass so when gordon's motor craped out i went back to the garage to tell him how he's screwing up my nascar fantasy team. needless to say he was pissed and i couldn't get that close to him. some girls ran over and tried to get him to sign their stuff. he motioned to them to go where the fence was lower and he signed their hats and picture's. all the drivers are really fan friendly. it's very rare that a driver doesn't sign things for the fans. in nascar the drivers are not allowed to drive golf carts or scooter's like IRL or cart. they have to walk everywhere they go. so they end up writing their names for a lot of people and they all do it. from Jr. to kasey kahne. after the driver meeting is the best time to catch your favorite driver. off course you have to figure a way to get in t! he garage area first.

songs i'm digging now...
monster magnet - unbroken...awesome. good to see dave back and rockin' the last album stiffed
saliva - survival of the sickest...josie got married and put out a kick ass song.

that's all for now. thanks for reading.
i'm history like harleyfest 2004

wad up?!?!?!?

congrats to the pistons. 2004 world champs! anyone who knows me knows i'm not a big hoops fan, but i can really appreciate a team like the pistons. no matter what game you play, you have to play like a TEAM and that's what the pistons did. as coach brown calls it "playing the right way." the lakers have some superstars, future hall of famers and even some future jailbirds, but they play selfishly and they got their asses handed to them. nice job coaching jackson!!! have fun at the other court kobe!

i have to admit, i did enjoy the games. hell maybe i'll become a fan after all. who knows, there might not even be a hockey season next year. that would be a smart move by the nhl. blame whoever you want, if they don't come back in october, i for one will not be welcoming them back with open arms when they do return. they will have to kiss my ass to bring me back. they think their ratings around the country suck now, wait until they strike.

speaking of hockey, the wrif team is 2-0 with a 1-0 win saturday night in the labatt's hockey tourney. one more victory and we're in the playoff's. we play again this saturday night at the suburban hockey arena. stop by and show some support, or just get a good laugh. we play at 8:30pm.

HARLEYFEST!!!!this weekend....join us for the ride from motor city harley davidson to freedom hill. motor city's at grand river and drake in farmington hills. we leave at 11am so get there early and line up. i'll be leading the pack with brian smolinski from the ottawa senators. he's a local boy and really fired up to be riding in his first ever harleyfest ride. nhl alumnist darren banks is also riding along with us. you never know who you might saddle up next to. other harley dealers are gathering and bring bunches of riders to join us for the police escorted run. should be big....be there!!!!

keep it looked on the riff for an upcoming summer ride with kid rock. that's all i can say now, but we did one with him last year and it was great.

met jeff gordon last week at media day at M.I.S.. he was pretty nice and got a huge kick out of my nickname "the big unit". it's funny how people seem to hate the guy. he never says anything bad about other drivers or anyone else. i've seen him get mobbed by people and still manage to sign autographs for everyone with out once acting irritated or annoyed. i'd like to see how other pro athletes would react to the crowd of people he attracts. they would have their security move people out of their way for sure. he's always a nice guy on the TV talk shows and other programs he's on.

i guess he won too many races too soon when he broke into the series. it's the same with any sport. people hate the yankee's, lakers, hell they even hate our red wings. why? because they win and everyone wants to see the underdog win. they even booed the legendary dale earnhardt because he hogged the spotlight with all his victories. i suppose a few non-winning seasons and gordon will be loved again. that's the way it goes in sports. i'll tell you this though, if he doesn't start to help my fantasy nascar team soon, i'll be booing him too!!!!

i'm out like the lakers...later

the run was to benefit the penrickton school for blind children. it was great to meet some of the staff as well as madison who i'm pictured with here.

what a ride and what an awesome program.

thanks to everyone who spent their sunday afternoon with us for the ride for a reason.

played hockey saturday night for the wrif team. we won 6-3 in our first game in the labbatt tournament. i had an assist and a wide open net which the goalie robbed me on.

next time.

we play again this saturday night at suburban ice arena at 8:30 then the party afterwards at poole's tavern in northville.

speaking of hockey, congrats to the tampa bay lightning. it didn't really matter to me who won the cup after the wings got knocked out, but people would come up to me and say they are pulling for calgary because they beat us. that's like saying you hope your x-girlfriend marries a millionare. i've always wanted to see the team that took us out beaten. that's just me though.

how about those hockey cheerleaders in tampa and calgary??? what's up with that?? we need some of those on the ice at the joe!! clearing ice with skin-tight outfits. goes together like kid rock and empty's at a piston playoff game!

i'am out...see you on the air

hey freaksssss...

first off, congrats to the pistons. i can respect a team like theirs. hard working no superstar kind of team. good luck to them. it will be tough against the lakers.

second. e-mail me to put your name on the guest list for the emerald on friday night. it get you in free and we'll pick a winner to have a party for you and 19 of your bud's in the mile high suites. friday night's in the clem at the emerald ballroom are wall to wall chicks and you won't regret it. e-mail me now. meltdown@wrif.com

third. hope to see you at the ride for a reason this coming sunday leaving cabela's in dundee to motown harley in taylor. it's one of the biggest rides of the year and it's for a great cause. the penrickton school for the blind and handicap. i got an e-mail from one of the nurses there a couple weeks ago and it should be more than enough of a reason to get you on your bike with us. here's a sample of what we are riding for this weekend:

Dear Meltdown,
I want to first let you know that I am a loyal WRIF listener. (I have listened for more years than I want to tell you.) I want to thank you in advance for your participation in the 4th annual Ride for a Reason that benefits Penrickton Center for Blind Children. I have been a nurse at the center for the past ten years and truthfully it is a very rewarding job. With all the bad news on the television you don't often hear about a place like this. We work with children who are legally blind and have one other handicap including cerebral palsy, autism, seizure disorder, hearing and speech impairment and develpmental delay. The childrens ages are 1-13 but developmentally they are below a 2 year range. We have a day care program for children under six, a residential program that the kids stay from Sunday night thru Friday and go home on the weekends and holidays with their families and also a consulation program for families who just needs some ideas to work on with their children. One of the best things about Penrickton is that the families do not have to pay anything for their child to be in our program. Penrickton solely runs on donations. We do not recieve any state or federal money and do not recieve any money from the childrens insurance. We get a third of our money from donations from a mailing program, a third from service clubs like Lions clubs and Kiawanis and a third from organizations including H.O.G. chapters. Everything you see at Penrickton has been donated in some shape or form. Now that is something you don't hear on the news.

When you think of a residential program for children it sounds sad but this place is the brightest most cheerful place you could imagine. All the bedrooms are brightly painted and the brothers and sisters never want to leave because "this place is cool". When you see the smile on a child that has worked hard to pick an object off a velcro board or the squeal of happiness from a child after feeding himself for the first time, it can really make your day. The tears of joy in a parents eye that had been previously told their child wouldn't be able to do anything and now see them scooping their own food and activating toys on their own is priceless. If you have time check out our website to see some of the happy faces, www.penrickton.com, and if you ever want a tour don't hesitate to stop by.
Thank you again for your support of the ride as well as the stations help.
We couldn't do it without great people like you and the many H.O.G. chapters and people in community who support us. Thank you also for the great music in the evening.

One of many loyal listeners,

Kim Stoltenberg, RN

see you there..

hey freaksssss.....

i had a couple cds burning my cd player this weekend.

first i submerged my skull in the brand new slipknot. it came out on tuesday. vol.3 (the subliminal verses) is a quality cd. i was really looking forward to it after hearing the first single "duality." that track is one of the best on the cd.

the rest doesn't disappiont either. believe or not, there are some pink floyd sounding tunes -- mellow, melodically flowing almost soft songs. there are also some nine inch nails type tracks as well. "circle" is a drum drivin NIN reminsent song for sure.

some of my faves are #10. a song called "before i forget" which sounds like it was recoreded live in concert. with a mammoth chorus and killer hook.
the opening cut "prelude 3.0" is the perfect way to start. a slow building track that has some very catchy guitar riffs.

the second track is "the blister exists" which i've heard a lot of the band members are partial to. it's a rollercoaster ride of a song that is heavy and i can see why they like it.

i've read in interviews with the guys, and they think this cd is their "zeppelin 4" or "abbey road." it's a good disc that will define slipknot for years to come. i think that is the reason they made those comments.

i like it and give it 8 stars out of 10

i also checked out zakk wylde's new black label society cd "hangover music."  i really dig the new one we are playing off of it. it's called "house of doom" and it's the heaviest thing on the cd. i think zakk had a hangover recording this because it's so damn mellow.

i do like the first cut called "crazy or high" but after that i'm not "crazy" about this album. he does a cover of "whiter shade of pale." i didn't like the original and his version sounds like some sort of gregg allman rip-off.
i like zakk a lot and have met him many times, but this is not my favorite cd by the man. i heard a rumor that this was his last cd on his contract with his current record label and he just wanted to get it out of the way. that could be true but it's just a rumor i heard somewhere.

i give this one a very generous 5 out of 10

thanks for all your emails with questions for slash and duff from velvet revolver. my interview never happened. here's what went down:

when i found out i was going to talk to the guys, i was stoked. i've had slash on the show before, and he's really cool and talks about whatever you want to. i interviewed duff about 10 years ago when guns 'n' roses were out with metallica. that's the only time i've met him. i also met his wife that night. i guess she's not a big fan of bras, and it was chilly out that night. no complaints here!

so i went to my boy vince at guitar center in southfield. i like to collect stuff from all my ventures in this crazy business that i'm fortunate enough to be in. i have a lot of framed pictures, autographed stuff from cds to photos to all sorts of other things as well. so i thought: how cool would an autographed slash ax hanging on the wall be?!?!?

i knew that was the kiss of death. i had that bad boy in my hands for a mere 5 hours when i got the call that the interview had been pushed back from 4pm to 6:30pm. i have to be on the air at 7pm and i would never have made it back to the station even if the interview took place on time, which i'm sure it wouldn't. then i would have had to edit all of slash's swear words which would have taken some time. i wouldn't have got it on the air till midnight!

the reason for the change was some sort of photo shoot for some mag called rolling stone or something. they blew me off for that!! LOL OK maybe i would have to.

schaffee ended up doing the interview and i never got my guitar signed. hopefully i can the next time they come through. we'll see.

i gotta roll. keep the e-mails coming and thanks for listening to the RIFF! i love this pic on the right: the prison bakery.

i'm out

Hey guys:
Thanks to all who came out for the spring run from Walk-About Cycle. Another huge turnout and a great time at the Salt River Park at the end. My boy Jethro always does an awesome job getting these rides underway, and the police escort was flawless. The cops had us going down 696 alone without a car in site.

I love the games that take place at the end. Lets just put it this way: the winner of the wiener bite was worth the price of admission!

The next big run is the one from Cabela's to Motown Harley on June 6th.  Registration is from 10am to noon. The first 1,500 riders get a special ride pin.  You can pre-register through May 23rd at Motown. This ride benefits the Penrickton Center for Blind Children.

Need I remind you -- HARLEYFEST JUNE 19th.  Be there. That run leaves Motor City Harley at 11am. That's also a great police escorted ride.

Had a chance to interview Noodles from the offspring on Friday. I've never talked to any of those guys and I didn't know what to expect. He was really nice. I walked up behind him and saw his www.probush.com traitor t-shirt. I know these guys aren't big fans of the prez, so a probush website on him was somewhat strange. He said if you go to the website there is a picture of him on the "traitor" section. Sure enough, there he is with the usual cast of lefties. Tim Robbins, Sean Penn (who I love as an actor) Michael Moore, etc. He said they mailed him a shirt for putting his picture up on the site. They are also on a CD called "Rock Against Bush." They do a song called "Baghdad."

After the interview I asked him if I could get a quick photo with him. He said "Sure, as long as you don't mind being in a picture with a left wing Pinko!" with a good laugh. You have to love Leftie with a good sense of humor.

I had a chance to interview Audioslave during the summer and Tim C. was not so cool. He took offense to just about everything I said. On the other hand Tom Morello was very open and accepting of another point of view. That kind of surprised me considering all of the anti-this and anti-that projects he's been involved with. He even thanked me afterwards for a good talk. I don't think I changed his mind on anything though! LOL

This week the interviews continue. I'll be talking with Slash and Duff from Velvet Revolver. They'll be rocking the State Theatre. If you have a question for these guys,f eel free to fire an e-mail to me at meltdown@wrif.com. I've interviewed both of these guys before. I don't think I've ever talked to Slash or heard him on the air were the F-bomb hasn't flown a couple of times. Trust me when I tell you, I'll be taping this one and editing it back at the studio.

I've heard a lot of good things about this new project. As a matter of fact, Noodles even commented on how he's looking forward to hearing this disc.

I gotta fly (for a white guy) ...I know... lame!!

What can be said? The Wings' season is over and the wings dropped the ball in the playoffs. They
got out-hustled and out-grinded to a team of nobodies. I heard someone mention that this was a team built for the regular season. That might very well be true. The playoffs are a different animal and the Wings could not hang with the Flames. Think about that!

The best team in the NHL could not skate with a team that barely made it into the playoffs! Use all the clichés you want, but in the end Calgary wanted it more and they deserve it.

It will be very interesting to see what happens in the off season, not only with the Wings, but with the league in general. If hockey does not return in a prompt fashion next year you can just about kiss it goodbye in the national eye. The ratings for it are already in the dumper across the country and calling it the fourth sport is giving it too much credit.

I'm a HUGE hockey fan as some of you guys may know. Hell, I've played since I was 8, but the reality is: hockey is nowhere near as popular as baseball, basketball, football, NASCAR. etc.  We'll see who returns to the Wings next year too.  New coach? Players??

We have been really spoiled the last 10 or so years. When I go to other cities or watch other
games on TV, it's truly amazing at how good we have it. Try being a fan of the Hurricanes, Sabres, Rangers (what a joke that is), or a dozen or so other teams around the league.

I for one am proud to be a Wings fan and feel privileged to have been able to watch such a great product year in and year out. The playoffs have hurt, and of course I'm pissed, but the fact remains this is still Hockeytown USA!

I was sent this picture of Art in Maui. Rough life eh?!?!? Thought I would open it up to some creative captions. Email me at meltdown@wrif.com

What up peeps!

A big salute to all our men and woman in uniform. What can be said about Pat Tillman that hasn't already been said? That guy was cut from a different cloth. I don't know anyone who would give up a $60,000 a year job and join the army, let alone a 3.7 million dollar one! This guy has to be one of the biggest patriots I've ever heard of. he is what makes this country so great. R.I.P and know you have my respect!! hell, anyone who fights for our freedom has my respect.

A big thank you to Judy and Kevin at Bumpers Bar and Grill in Westland. I did a gig there Saturday night and had a great time. Watching chicks play tug of war for RIFF t-shirts is a blast. That's a great stop on the Harley on a Sunday afternoon
to check out NASCAR too. Stop in and ask Kevin who owns the belt in bubbleboy
hockey!!!!!! right here baby!!! www.bumpersbarandgrill.com

Got the new bike ordered from Motor City Harley. Sometime in June we'll be pounding
the pavement in a new softail. Lots of rides coming up this summer too. Keep it on the RIFF for details on where we'll be blocking traffic in a town near you soon.

Also check out the Labbatt hockey tournament page and get your team hooked up. It
starts in June so get some players and take to the ice. light the lamp!!

This is the Texas Tech swim team. I've disposed of a few million swimmers my self just looking at it!

Go Wings!
I'm gone like Colorado's chances of making the third round of the NHL playoff's meltdown

Wad up!!

Went out to Motor City Harley and took a new bike out for a spin. Looking to get a new sled for the summer rides. Already a lot of runs getting geared up.

*May 16th from Walkabout cycle in Warren.
*June 6th from Cabellas to Motown Harley
*June 19th from Motor City Harley to Harleyfest.
*Every Thursday at Augies in Madison Heights is bike night with Great Lakes Choppers. (A plug for my boy Dave)

That’s just for starters. There are a couple more that aren’t confirmed yet. I look forward to going on the Andy Ross run also.

*check out www.slashonline.com for all your Velvet Revolver info. Look for a may 20th date here.

Spent Saturday afternoon at the Hockeytown Café watching the Wings dispose of the Predators. What an awesome time. I thought we were going to watch the game in the bar and suck beers and yell at the TVs. We actually went into what was the old Second City Theater and saw the game on the 2 big screens in the comfort of stadium seating and great sound. That’s how hockey should be seen.

Normally they have the JoeVision going, but there was some figure skating thing clogging up the arena and it was moved to Hockeytown. What a blast. Thanks to everyone who came out and to Rob from the Wings for hooking it up. Keep it on the RIFF for future stuff there.

Speaking of the Wings, last time I wrote one of these I dogged my boy Hatcher. He seemed to pick up his play and it must have been contagious. Way to go boys. On to round 2. I love this time of year. Hockey on TV every day!! That’s life!

What’s up with this Mike Danton guy from the St. Louis Blues??? Dude tries to allegedly have his gay lover killed after he said he was going to “out” him. This story is weird enough. First of all he officially changed his last name. When he played for the Devils he was Mike Jefferson. Apparently he wanted to separate himself from his family. If you're going to change your name, at least make it something cool like… I dunno ... MELTDOWN! This is going to be a very interesting off season for that dude. Hope he saved the puck from the last goal he scored last week. That might be all for his career.

This is from Denie. I think the Iraqi police force need some of these.

Say a prayer for the soldiers..

I’ m gone like St. Louis Blues Mike "Murder-for Hire" Denton's freedom!

4-12-04

Hey!

Thanks to everyone who came out to Jamboozies this past Saturday. The place was packed and everyone seemed to have a great time. Rose and the entire staff are really cool and that place just has a great vibe to it. Get out there some night and check it out for yourself. 18 ½ and Van Dyke in Sterling Heights.

As I write this on Monday, I’d like to comment on the play of Darrien Hatcher. I think and that he is still suffering from his injury’s he sustained this season. Over the weekend he was beat to the puck and in some instances beat off... er … pushed off (that sounds better) of the puck. Of course he coughed up the one which found its way to the back of the net on Sunday. We need a big presence like him back there to not only push his weight around but threaten opponents and basically intimidate guys. Come on big D. Snap out of it and put your name on another cup!

I love this one sent to me. Two ass clowns!

GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4-8-04

Hey cyber freaks!

Had a chance to go go-cart racing this past weekend with the guys from the band Trapt. They played at Harpos Saturday night and wanted something fun to do during the afternoon. They got what they bargained for. The dude running the go-carts turned them up for the guys and they were flying!

We were at “Grand Prix America” in Westland. It’s an indoor go-cart track with battery operated carts. The cool things about those are that they can turn them up to about 45-50 M.P.H. What a blast. Get there if you get a chance.

Felt kind of shitty all weekend fighting off the bug that’s going around. One thing I don’t suggest is to rent the movie “Something’s Got to Give.”  I take that back, I did get a lot of rest during it! Even though it’s got Jack Nicholson in it, it is still a sappy love story. Boy was I suckered in on that one!

Heading into the 10 year anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death. Some people feel said for him and call him a genius. His music rewrote rock radio in the early 1990’s and almost single handedly put a dagger in the heart of hair bands. But I’ll never shed a single tear for a guy who had it all and then decided to leave his child and wife and take the selfish way out. Whether he had some medical problem or couldn’t handle the fame or whatever. My mother died 2 years before him at the age of 46 from cancer. She fought until the end and would have giving anything to live. Check out www.thesmokinggun.com for a lot of the police investigation on this case.

With the demise of Nirvana it makes you appreciate a guy like Dave Grohl a little bit more. Here’s a guy who played in one of the mose popular bands of the 90’s then started all over with his new band The Foo Fighters. At first he may have got a little preferential treatment because he was in Nirvana, but over time he has come into his own as a formidable lead singer. And he’s a pretty nice guy too.

A bunch of you guys sent me this one of Dem. Presidential hopeful John Kerry...

I’m gone like Kelly Osbourne’s sobriety
