This month has been full of high profile Rock and Roll record releases; including albums from Pearl Jam and Korn. The two nineties juggernauts spearheaded October with the releases of their 10th and 11th studio albums, respectively. And while the new-look Stone Temple Pilots have delivered their first album with Chester Bennington at the helm, Alter Bridge hopes to extend their success with their fourth studio LP, Fortress, and Motorhead pushes on following Lemmy Kilmister’s health issues with the release of Aftershock.
1. Pearl Jam - Lightning Bolt
One of the only remaining pioneers of the grunge rock era, Pearl Jam, issued their tenth studio album, Lightning Bolt, on October 11. The LP is their first since 2009’s Backspacer and is projected to debut at No. 1 in next week’s Billboard 200 rankings. The 12-track, Lightning Bolt, would be the band’s fifth No. 1 album if expectations go accordingly. Pearl Jam has released two singles from the album thus far, “Mind Your Manners” and “Sirens.”
It’s been over twenty years since Pearl Jam got started and the hits just keep on coming. Their latest single, “Sirens,” can be heard below:
2. Stone Temple Pilots ft. Chester Bennington - High Rise
Following the widely publicized separation of Stone Temple Pilots and long-time frontman, Scott Weiland, STP has turned over a new leaf and brought in Linkin Park singer, Chester Bennington. The band released their first EP together, High Rise, on October 8. The record peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard 200 and features five tracks including singles, “Out of Time” and “Black Heart.”
It will be interesting to see where this new lineup takes them, but Stone Temple Pilots seem eager not to skip a beat in the wake of Weiland’s departure. Check out the single, “Out of Time,” below:
3. Alter Bridge - Fortress
Accomplished hard rock band, Alter Bridge, recently unveiled their fourth studio album, Fortress, on October 8. Fortress debuted on the Billboard 200 charts at No. 12, meaning each of AB's first four albums have reached the top 20. “Addicted to Pain” is the only single off of the album so far, and can be heard below:
4. Korn - The Paradigm Shift
On October 4, Grammy Award-winning, heavy metal band, Korn released The Paradigm Shift featuring original guitarist, Brian “Head” Welch – their first album with him since 2003's Look in the Mirror. The record peaked at No. 8 and features 11 tracks, including two singles “Never Never” and “Love & Meth.”
Now that the band has gotten back to its roots, we expect they won’t let up anytime soon. Check out their newly released single, “Love & Meth,” below:
5. Motorhead - Aftershock
Closing in on 40 illustrious years of heavy metal, Motorhead is set to release their 21st studio album, Aftershock, on October 22. Despite frontman Lemmy Kilmister’s recent health problems, the band has pressed on. Not only are they releasing an album, but Kilmister plans to take the band on a European tour beginning in November.
The Aftershock LP features the single, “Queen of the Damned,” along with 13 additional tracks. Take a listen to “Queen of the Damned” below:
