Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett is taking his passion for horror to new heights with Kirk Von Hammett's Fear FestEvil, which will take place February 6-8 at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco.
Hammett -- who published a book of his horror memorabilia collection, "Too Much Horror Business," in 2012 -- will host presentations by makeup artists from "Dawn of the Dead" and "The Walking Dead" TV series, with more guests to be announced.
The FestEvil will also feature his popular Kirk's Crypt museum of horror artifacts that he displayed at Metallica's first two Orion Music + More festivals. Hammett tells us that he's been a horror devotee since childhood:
"I was totally a little geeky kid. I saw my first horror movie when I was five years old. I started buying comic books and monster magazines when I was six years old. That's pretty much what I did when I was a kid. I was a total geek, a total nerd...I grew up at this one comic book store that was a few blocks away from my house. I mean, I practically lived there. I read comic books the whole time and monster magazines pretty much the whole time in my entire youth."
Hammett has established a Facebook page with more information about the event.
Meanwhile, he and the other members of Metallica are continuing to promote their 3D movie "Metallica Through the Never," which opened two weeks ago. The group is slated to start working on its next album during early 2014.
