Even though Chester Bennington is currently busy with his new gig fronting Stone Temple Pilots, the guys from Linkin Park have still managed to find the time to release a new track and a video game.
According to Yahoo, the band teamed with House musician Steve Aoki for a song called “A Light That Never Comes,” which will be also featured on their upcoming album, Recharged, due out on October 29.
That’s not all, however, as fans of Linkin Park can unlock the song early by playing a 3D Facebook game, LP Recharge.
After the song is unlocked in the game, “Light” will hit the airwaves and stream exclusively on Xbox Music. In two weeks, the song will then be released through other platforms, including Xbox 360, iOS and Android.
Details on the game are slim, though the release says it is a “free-to-play action/strategy game featuring band-designed characters and missions.”
Linkin Park rocker Mike Shinoda, an art school grad who assisted in the game’s design, says the song is part of an effort by the band to branch out.
“I think this song and release show where we’re at right now,” he stated (via Yahoo). “Making the song with Steve, premiering it through the Recharge Facebook game, and debuting it via Microsoft’s Xbox Music – I think it’s all indicative of our band’s commitment to experimentation and pushing boundaries.”
Though Aoki actually debuted the song last month at a performance in Tokyo, fans who were unable to attend were at best able to catch distorted recordings from the show online.
