Guns N’ Roses’ DJ Ashba revealed that he was rushed to the hospital after trying to quit smoking with what turned out to be toxic e-cigarettes.
After deciding to stop smoking, the GNR guitarist thought kicking the longtime habit would be easier with the aid of e-cigarettes, Classic Rock Magazine reports.
“I quit for nine months,” he wrote on his official Instagram. “However, I was smoking fake cigarettes that I bought in a mall in Poland, which contained high doses of nicotine – and antifreeze.”
Ashba was reportedly later rushed to the hospital and put on heart monitors. He then was apparently taken in for a CAT scan, with the results showing that the e-cigarettes hadn’t caused a great deal of internal damage, which is surprising given the severity of the incident.
“Poison Control confirmed the nicotine intake from the fake cigarettes was the equivalent to smoking 33 packs of cigarettes a day,” the rocker added.
Since his health scare, Ashba has tried to slowly wean himself off cigarettes over time. As for GNR, the band doesn’t have much planned in the way of concert dates this summer, with only one appearance at Quebec City’s Festival D’Ete de Quebec scheduled at this time.
