Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis was wrestled down Friday by an overzealous—and apparently shortsighted—security guard outside of the Philadelphia Four Seasons Hotel where the Rolling Stones were staying, and TMZ caught the whole debacle on video.
The footage reveals the 50-year-old rocker and a lady friend trying to access the hotel entrance when they are suddenly blocked by security. A black-suited guard, apparently mistaking Kiedis for a wayward Stones fan and unmindful of his “I live here!” explanation, lunges at the singer’s legs and puts him in a brief headlock.
“That’s the lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers!” shouts one onlooker at the onset of the scuffle.
After matters are sorted out, Kiedis shakes hands with the guard and makes his way inside. Just minutes later we see the Stones, who were in town for two nights, emerge from the hotel entrance.
Kiedis took the “Higher Ground” when issuing a statement on the misadventure, telling TMZ, “I love the Rolling Stones.”
Thankfully, this unexpected tussle didn’t leave the California rocker with any “Scar Tissue,” as RHCP have a number of upcoming tour dates, including the weekend-long Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco in early August, where they will be joined by such acts as Paul McCartney and Nine Inch Nails.
