It may be the “End of the Beginning,” but Black Sabbath is off to a great start, earning their first-ever #1 album in the United States with the release of 13 last week.
The album, produced by Rick Rubin, was just released last week and has already sold more than 150,000 copies in the States. 13 also reached #1 in the UK, Denmark, Germany, New Zealand and Switzerland, according to the official press release.
“There have been so many amazing highlights in our long career,” Ozzy Osbourne said in the official press release. “To finally have our first #1 album in the U.S. is another incredible milestone for Black Sabbath. Thank you to all of our fans for their support and loyalty.”
Of course, 13 marks the band’s first album with Ozzy Osbourne on lead vocals since 1978’s Never Say Die! The other members of Sabbath expressed their gratitude as well, with Geezer Butler thanking fans for sticking by them over the years.
"I’m absolutely stunned. Thank you all worldwide for being the best, and most patient, fans ever,” Butler said in the official press release.
Sabbath, who was just awarded Best UK Band and Best Album for 13 at this year's Metal Hammer Golden God Awards, will also kick off their long-anticipated North American tour on July 25, starting in Houston and hitting a totally of 20 cities, including Holmdel, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Boston and Detroit.
