The Dead Weather may be dormant, but it's not, well, dead. The group's Alison Mosshart and Dean Fertita were surprise guests at Jack White's concert on Wednesday night (July 30) in Detroit, the second of his two homecoming shows this week. The trio, along with White's five piece band, stomped through the Dead Weather's "I Cut Like a Buffalo," though Mosshart and Fertita were absent when White and company played another Dead Weather track, "Blue Blood Blues," during the encore. The Dead Weather appearance was just one surprise during a night that saw White dig particularly deep into the White Stripes catalog for obscurities such as "Screwdriver," "Apple Blossom," "Sugar Never Tasted So Good," "I Fought Pirhanas," while he also extended "Ball and Biscuit" with the Muddy Waters staple "Got My Mojo Working" and a rare slice of Led Zeppelin's "The Lemon Song" and vamped into Beck's "Devil's Haircut" at the end of his own "Sixteen Candles." The Dead Weather's last release was a two-song single in January, and White has said the group will continue to release new songs that way via his Third Man Records Vault subscription service, eventually compiling them onto an album in 2015.
