Steve grew up in Flushing Township between Flint and Saginaw and has been on
Detroit radio for more than fifteen years at five different stations before
landing at the RIFF.
Steve realized his long time dream of hosting a syndicated
radio show by launching
The Chop Shop guitar show in May of 2004. The Chop Shop is the nation’s only
syndicated guitar show and continues to grow and expand, as Chop Shop Classic
was launched in 2006.
Steve Black and his wife Sabrina had a legendary romance
that ended after Sabrina lost her battle with Hodgkin's Disease on March 20th
of 2006. Sabrina a 15 year Detroit radio personality as well, became a beacon of
hope and class during her fight, and in her honor
the Sabrina Black Foundation was created to help other cancer
victims in their time of need.
“Black” as his friends and family call him, is a natural
behind the mic, Steve has more than 100 interviews posted at chopshopradio.com
including guitar heroes like Joe Satriani, Joe Perry, Dean Deleo of STP, Tony
Rombollo of Godsmack, Slash, Zakk Wylde, Billy Gibbons, Ted Nugent and many,
many more!
Steve's radio highlights include helping to break bands
like Tool, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Dream Theater, White Zombie and Rage
Against the Machine. He also got the chance to sing on stage with Steve Vai and
played hockey at the Joe with Darren McCarty, Mark Howe, and The Hanson
Brothers. He even scored a goal on a nice feed from Igor Larionov, and skated
against Steve Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan.
When Steve isn't on the air, or involved in his role as
President of 2 corporation’s, he's probably enjoying some time outside, reading
a book, or traveling the world. Steve's been all over the world, from the Arctic
Circle to Hawaii to Norway!
