In the past few months a number of WRIF listeners have been approached on the street by people claiming to be a representative of WRIF collecting charitable donations in exchange for gift cards to local resturants and attractions, such as Applebees, 5 Guys Burgers, and the Detroit Institute of Art, which turn out to be invalid or deactivated.  These people are NOT representatives of our radio station.  Many people have been approached in the downtown Detroit/Greektown area, but this has also taken place in some of the suburbs.

WRIF and its staff do NOT approach people randomly to collect donations in exchange for anything.  Any fundraising that the station would do for a charity would only take place at a clearly marked and sanctioned WRIF event or on the air.  PLEASE do not make any donations to these indivduals.  WRIF does not want to see any of our listeners get taken advantage of.  If you have been approached or made a donation in the manner, please email us at scam@wrif.com, subject line: SCAM.
